Payload

Directed by Sai Kelly

Far above the ashes of a doomed world a bombardier in a dying war machine; an outdated and aging relic from a bygone era, cuts through the skies on a mission of devastating importance. Aboard this creaking hulk, is Bombardier Lt. Erin Reid, whose past is a closed file; especially the part concerning her long-lost father.

As the rusted museum piece looms closer to its target, Erin is caught between past and present, haunted by visions and fragments of memories she doesn’t fully understand. Meanwhile, down below, hidden amidst the wreckage of civilisation, a mysterious figure broadcasts an old signal, one that stirs something deep in Erin’s DNA.

With lives on the line, Erin is torn between orders and a past that was stolen from her. As she begins to question the mission and who she really is Erin is forced into a moment of reckoning: fulfil her role in a war that’s swallowed generations or risk everything for a truth that may never come.

Payload is a gripping, character-driven sci-fi short about identity, sacrifice and the ghosts we carry, where the lines between past and future, duty and humanity are more fragile than ever. Set against the mechanical heartbeat of war and the flicker of hope buried deep within it, while locked in the claustrophobic belly of a bomber flying toward history’s end.
